Nyonya wedding with western touch | When East meets West

Nyonya wedding with western touch

We absolutely love this mixed culture wedding, a nyonya / peranakan wedding with a western touch. Chia Huei is from a family of nyonya / peranakan heritage, she went for all traditional styling even to her ‘Baju Kebaya’ as her wedding dress. Baju Kebaya is made with batik cloth usually with lots of colourful motifs. It was good to see the entire bridal party in Baju Kebaya that day!

Much of the details and decorations around the house was in theme with the nyonya / peranakan tradition. Just love how much effort was put into the little details and this was all in the bride’s home. Tobi on the other hand, was from Switzerland together with his entourage. It is nice to see the boys, going through the tradition and seemingly enjoying the entire process.

Here are some of the vendors from the wedding day :-

Bride’s hair & make up – Aivy Yong

Florist – Daun & Petals

Bride’s Wedding shoes – Penang Nyonya Culture by Kenny Loh

Brides Baju Kebaya – Ang Eng (Amcorp Mall)

Groom’s suit – Lord’s 1974

The wedding day was fun as the boys had to battle their way through the traditional bridal games prepared by the bridesmaids before being able to ‘claim’ the bride in marriage. After going through some vigorous task , Tobi finally gets his bride but not after having to pay out some amount of  ‘Ang Pow’ to the bridesmaids.

The traditional Chinese tea ceremony was held as couples serve tea to the older generation as sign of respect and honour to the older generations. We did some shots with the bridal party, as the bridesmaids were all in baju kebaya and they look really good.

Here are some of the captures that day…
