Back to this blog post about the Baraat & Pheras ceremony. Traditionally the Baraat ceremony is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom involving live music and dancing. While it does not hold religious significance, it is an important custom nonetheless. Some weddings the groom will be riding on elephants or horses as they march into the wedding reception area. The Pheras ceremony is a traditional symbolic of circling of the fire as both bride and groom make four rounds around the sacred fire. Groom will take lead for three rounds the bride will lead the fourth. Each round symbolises a goal that the couple is to achieve in life; namely righteousness, wealth, desire and liberation. These a just some of the ceremonial elements that happens during a Pheras ceremony. There are many in between ceremonies that take place during this sacred time.
